From: Jonathan Billington Subject: Re-instatement of the High-level Petri net Standard, ISO/IEC 15909 Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 16:57:14 +0930 Folks, Recently, high level procedures in ISO/IEC JTC1 automatically cancelled the High-level Petri Net standard, without warning to the Convenor of the working group (Bryan Wood, UK) or to the editor (me). As the Standard was 99% finalised, we have worked hard to get the project re-instated. I have just returned from an ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 Plenary meeting in Busan Korea, 13-17 May 2002. The meeting went well. The resolution at the Plenary for a ballot to re-instate the project was carried unanimously. This will entail 1. SC7 sending to all National Bodies (eg DIN, BCS etc) a new work item (NWI) proposal to restart the project, with pointers to SC7 documents of the original balloted proposal SC7N1441, and the ballot result N1494 (which was favourable - 12 countries in favour). If this succeeds (which I would expect - there is no reason for it not to), then 2. The current revised version of the standard would be reballoted as a combined WD/CD/FCD - then it would go to FDIS if accepted. The resolution states that 1. must occur by 1 July, and it would be a 60 day ballot, which means that the result should be known by 1 September. Then the FCD ballot would go ahead. I hope that this will happen by end September, and that ballot should be known in Dec/January with a bit of luck. I spent the meeting lobbying people, attending the WG19 meeting (includes the old WG11) and writing the NWI proposal in the evenings. It suggests a 3 part standard. ISO/IEC 15909-1 (current document) ISO/IEC 15909-2 (Transfer Format) ISO/IEC 15909-3 (Extensions - including modularity (eg substitution transitions of HCPNs) and time). I am circulating this document to you for comment. I shall need comment by the end of the week - 24 May. Then I shall send it to the SC7 secretariat for balloting. Thus the important thing is for National Bodies to support this New Work Item proposal. Your input to your national standards bodies in support of this proposal on this ballot would be most appreciated. Kind regards - Jonathan
